Book a Call-Out

Need a repair visit for an aircon, fridge, freezer or cold room fault in Cape Town? Book a call-out with Tropical Refrigeration and we will arrange the right technician for your site. From our Montague Gardens base, we serve homes, offices and commercial premises across Cape Town and the Peninsula.

How to book a repair visit in Cape Town

When equipment stops cooling, starts icing up, leaks water or trips the breaker, the quickest way to get help is to book a call-out with a clear fault note. Tell us what is not working, the address, the best contact number and whether the unit is at a home, office, shop, restaurant or storage room.

We work across Cape Town CBD, Milnerton, Bellville, Claremont, Somerset West and Fish Hoek, with call-outs handled from our Montague Gardens base. If the fault is urgent, mention it in your booking so we can prioritise it where possible.

  • Aircon not cooling or blowing warm air
  • Water dripping from the indoor unit
  • Fridge or freezer running but not pulling temperature down
  • Cold room door not sealing, or frost building up

What information helps us plan the job

The more detail you give, the better we can send the right person with the right parts. If you know the make and model, include it. If you do not, a photo of the nameplate helps. For commercial jobs, tell us the room size, unit quantity and whether the fault affects stock, staff comfort or trading hours.

  • Type of unit: split aircon, under-counter fridge, chest freezer, display freezer or cold room
  • Fault symptoms: not cooling, noisy fan, ice build-up, bad smell, tripping, error light
  • Site details: floor level, parking access, security arrangements and after-hours access
  • Power issues: recent load-shedding damage, voltage drops or frequent breaker trips

If the unit has been leaking gas or losing temperature slowly, say so. Small leaks can worsen over time and cause a compressor to work harder, which is more costly to fix later. We often find the problem after a proper leak check rather than guessing from the symptom alone.

What happens after you send the booking request

Once your request comes through, our office team checks the details and matches the job to the correct technician. For air-conditioning faults, that may be an installation or service technician. For refrigeration faults, a senior refrigeration technician may be assigned if the job involves a cold room, freezer or compressor issue.

You will then get a call back to confirm the next available slot, the likely service area, and any access notes. If a part is likely to be needed, we will tell you before the visit where possible, so there is less back and forth on the day.

We keep communication practical and direct. If there is a delay because of traffic, weather or a long site repair in the morning, we will let you know. That way you are not waiting around all day with no update.

Repairs we commonly attend

Our call-outs cover both residential and commercial faults, from a single wall-mounted aircon in a flat to larger refrigeration plant in a business premises. In coastal areas like Fish Hoek and parts of the Peninsula, salty air can speed up corrosion, so outdoor units and condenser parts need close attention. In inland suburbs, dust and heavy use can also lead to blocked filters and overheating.

  • Aircon repairs, gas refills and annual service
  • Leak detection and refrigerant pressure checks
  • Cold room repairs and temperature control faults
  • Freezer repairs, compressor replacement and thermostat replacement
  • Ventilation servicing for extraction and airflow problems

We also handle equipment that is cycling too often, frosting over, making unusual noise or losing temperature after load-shedding. In many cases, the fault is a combination of dirty coils, poor airflow and a failing component, so a full inspection saves time.

Before the technician arrives

A few simple steps can help the visit go faster. Please make sure the unit is switched on, the area is accessible and any stock, furniture or loose items around the appliance have been moved if possible. If the unit is in a locked store room or rooftop area, arrange access in advance.

  • Do not keep resetting a tripping unit without checking the cause
  • Do not top up gas repeatedly if the system may have a leak
  • Leave the area clear so panels, filters and pipework can be reached
  • Have a contact person on site for commercial repairs

If the fault started after a power cut, tell us whether other equipment was affected as well. That kind of detail often points us toward the real cause, not just the symptom.

Why Cape Town clients call Tropical Refrigeration

Tropical Refrigeration has served Cape Town since 2013, with Mandla Petersen as Managing Director and a team built around practical field experience. Our team includes an operations manager, service coordinator, customer care lead and specialist technicians, so the booking and repair process stays organised from start to finish.

If you need a repair visit in Cape Town or the Peninsula, send your details to bookings@tropicalrefrigeration.co.za and we will take it from there. We service Montague Gardens and surrounding areas every week, and we know how to work around busy sites, limited parking and the realities of load-shedding.

Questions we get asked

Do you repair both domestic and commercial equipment?

Yes. We handle home aircons, office systems, fridges, freezers and commercial cold rooms across Cape Town and the Peninsula.

What should I do if my aircon is not cooling after load-shedding?

Switch it off, check the breaker and let us know what happened before and after the outage. Repeated restarts can make a fault worse if there is low voltage or a component problem.

Can you come out to Bellville, Somerset West or Fish Hoek?

Yes. We serve Cape Town CBD, Milnerton, Bellville, Claremont, Somerset West, Fish Hoek and nearby areas from our Montague Gardens base.
